Herats is the 3rd largest city in Afghanistan and is now well-known for its use of modern technology. IT has spread as a response to its inhabitants' desire to be connected to the rest of the world. The development of IT as an industry and as an educational field represents an opportunity for the younger generations who want to rebuild their country. Herat's IT faculty has expended its equipments with the help of the international community and received many applications for the computer science program. The development of IT is also visible outside the university, for instance with the opening of a computer center where people can buy equipment for their home.
